First International Joint Robotics Competition (IJRC 2008) Eastern Mediterranean University, Famagusta, North Cyprus May 15‐17, 2008 Jointly organized by Eastern Mediterranean University (North Cyprus), Shiraz University (Iran), Bogazici University (Turkey), Süleyman Demirel University (Turkey), Middle East Technical University (Turkey). Scope Robotic science is rapidly expanding with practical uses in many industries. The International Joint Robotics Competition (IJRC2008) aims at bringing together researchers and enthusiasts in robotics to introduce students into this fascinating world, foster cooperation, and exchange of ideas. IJRC competition will likely spur interest, promote education in robotics, and motivate aspiring young engineers and scientists to further pursue. There are six categories in IJRC 2008 Competition: Intermediate Level Line Following Fight Club (Mini Sumo) Labyrinth Discovery Advanced Level (Cooperative Robotics) BARPA Stock Car Race: Multiple line‐following robots race simultaneously on the same field. Mini Sumo Teams: Mini Sumo Robots fight as a team of three members against enemy’s team. Cooperative Labyrinth Discovery (CLD): Multiple (intelligent/semantic) robots cooperate to find exit(s). Prizes: There will be awards given to the first three places in every category. Additionally, a special award will be given to one of the robots participating in the demonstration section. The Management reserves its right to abolish, reduce, or increase the prize money for any category.
