International Workshop on Self-Regulated Learning in Responsive Open Learning Environments in conjunction with ICALT 2011, Athens, Georgia, USA, 6-8 July 2011
Call for Papers: SRL-ROLE 2011 @ ICALT Conference
*************************************************
International Workshop on
Self-Regulated Learning in Responsive Open Learning Environments in conjunction with ICALT 2011, Athens, Georgia, USA, 6-8 July 2011
http://dbis.rwth-aachen.de/SRL-ROLE2011/
The International Workshop on Self-Regulated Learning in Responsive Open Learning Environments (SRL-ROLE 2011) is held in the context of the 11th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT 2011, http://www.ask4research.info/icalt/2011/). It takes place on July 6-8, 2011 in Athens, Georgia, USA.
Submission Deadline: February 23, 2011
Workshop Objectives:
********************
Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) is guided by meta-cognition, strategic action (planning, monitoring, and evaluating progress), and motivation to learn. Self-regulated learners are aware of their academic strengths and weaknesses, and they have a repertoire of strategies they appropriately apply to tackle the day-to-day challenges of academic tasks. Personalization of SRL based on psycho-pedagogical learning theories permits individualization of learning components and their combination to generate new environments and functionalities, which can be adapted by learners to meet their own needs. To address current demands of true lifelong and personalized learning this workshop focuses on Self-Regulated Learning in Responsive Open Learning Environments which refer to e-learning environments offering breakthrough levels of effectiveness, flexibility, user-control and mass-individualization.
The project ROLE (http://www.role-project.eu) aims to empower the learner to take control over his or her own learning processes. It develops an infrastructure that enables learners to construct their own learning environments according to their personal and contextual needs such as accreditation and corporate goals. The challenge is to implement and test a user-driven framework based on Web 2.0 technologies. ROLE fosters the idea that most learning takes place informally, in different contexts and scenarios, and that content is not provided by one single provider. An outreach programme tries to involve stakeholders who contribute with learning tools and services that are included in a pool from which a learner can choose.
Target Group and Research Questions:
************************************
The target audience of the workshop consists of researchers, developers, and users of learning environments who are interested in improving the self-regulated learning experience in this context. This workshop should attract people dealing with SRL in learning environments who want to present their ideas and results, discuss applicable models and techniques, and start new collaboration.
Interesting research questions to be addressed in position papers include:
* Which theories and models are important for SRL?
* How can self-regulation competences be taught, learned, and controlled?
* How can responsive learning environments foster SRL?
* How can technological and collaborative strategies support
self-regulated learning processes?
