Call for Papers

Semantic Web enables intelligent interaction among systems and applications on the Web by deploying ontologies, semantic annotation of Web content, and reasoning. Web 2.0 technologies such as mashups, blogs, wikis, feeds, interface remixes, and social networking/tagging systems, support social interactions among people on the Web.
These two important and popular sets of Internet technologies are often considered alternative and opposing to each other. Others consider them rather complementary to each other.

This special issue of AoIS is open to both of these views and attempts to support discussion on both synergies and controversies of the two technologies. Moreover, it is open to the "third" approach as well – what other technologies contribute to both Semantic Web and Web 2.0?
We are witnessing flourishing of service-oriented architectures, model-driven engineering, and Web mining technologies, to name but a few, that might have a considerable impact on both Semantic Web and Web 2.0. Can these other technologies bridge the controversies between Semantic Web and Web 2.0, or do they only widen the gap and drive the two approaches further away from each other? Alternatively, can other technologies take on the role of matching up with the semantic demands of Web 2.0 applications? Can other technologies help users effectively create, maintain, map between, and use RDF/OWL content, in order to further support Web 2.0 participatory ecosystems of content that is supplied and maintained by their users?

The list of possible topics includes, but is not limited to the following:
•    ontologies and semantic annotations for Web 2.0 content and applications
•    collaborative tagging and folksonomies vs. semantic annotations
•    semantic social networking
•    semantic technologies for enabling reasoning in Web 2.0 applications
•    software engineering and language engineering technologies to
support Semantic Web and Web 2.0 applications
•    data and Web mining support for Semantic Web and Web 2.0
•    metamodeling and model-driven engineering for Semantic Web and Web 2.0
•    policy engineering and QoS engineering for Semantic Web and Web 2.0
•    semantics-enhanced design of Web 2.0 applications
•    support for social interactions in Semantic Web applications
•    semantic technologies for personalization and adaptation of Web 2.0
applications
•    semantic-rich service-oriented architectures for Web 2.0 applications
•    semantic content for collaborative applications



Important dates

Paper submission:    February 1st, 2008.
Authors notified:        April 1st, 2008.
Camera ready:         June 1st, 2008.
Publication:            September 1st, 2008.
