The Intelligent Support for Mathematical Generalisation (ISMG) project is funded by the EPSRC/ESRC under the Teaching and Learning Research Programme.
The project will aim to co-design, build and evaluate, with teachers and teacher educators, a mutually supportive pedagogical and technical environment for improving 11-14 year-old students' learning of mathematical generalisation. The project will develop both a pedagogical and technical environment, which consists of three components:
- a microworld designed to promote learning through model-construction.
- an intelligent tool that provides personalised feedback during the process of model construction, analysis and generalisation, adapted to students' learning development and based on analyses of learners' interactions in the microworld, and
- an intelligent tool for learners and teachers that fosters and sustains an effective online learning community by providing assistance to learners based on analyses of their own learning and the activities of the group and advising learners and teachers as to which constructions and reports of others to view, compare, critique and build upon;
