2 Ph.D. research positions
in the context of a new research projects which start in January 2008 in our Search and Digital Library group at L3S. The ViFaChem II Project focuses on searching, enriching and offering structured access to documents focusing on the chemical domain. The project is run in tight cooperation with the technical information library TIB Hannover.
Your research will focus on topics in the following areas
* Digital Libraries and Meta Data
* Information Retrieval and Text Mining
* (Semi-)Automatic Creation of Taxonomies/Ontologies
* Search for Chemical Information, Objects and Entities
* Web-Portals for Structured Access to Chemical Documents
in an international and unique research environment.
You should possess good knowledge in one or several areas relevant for the topics specified in this announcement. This includes database technology, machine learning techniques, information retrieval and digital library technology. Moreover, you should be willing to gain knowledge in the area of chemistry to cater for the specific needs of the project.
Good proficiency in English is expected, as well as an outstanding M.Sc. or Ph.D. in computer science. German language skills are useful, but not mandatory. The salary amounts to German TV-L E13/E14, which is roughly 40.000 to 50.000 Euro gross income per year.
